My brother and I put a white spring in his 2001 trail boss this weekend and unlike my trailblazer we did not see any difference other than when he backups up now he has to hit the override or it won't move. It made a big difference on my 2001 trailblazer and is worth the $20 and 20 minutes of time.

My riding situation is a lot like yours: friend on an 00 Trailblazer and me on an 00 TrailBoss. He has always been just a little quicker that me so when we ordered the green springs i put mine in first. When we lined up this time, i'm dead even with him til about 30mph or so (understanding i weigh about 50lbs more than he)then he eases ahead a little. Not near the difference at the finish line it used to be. He put his green spring in then and it was like it used to be. He pulled away steadily til he was about 2 lengths out and stayed there.
My point to all this rambling is that the green spring on my TrailBoss was worth the time and money. The reverse override was a pain, so i disconnected it. I love the improvement. Wheelies are much easier too, and i have the sore neck from falling off to prove it. HOpe this encourages him not to give in.

Actually, now that my Boss is well broke in, I can get the jump on his Trail Blazer and stay ahead until he eases about one length ahead. That was with him having white spring and me the stock spring. We haven't raced since we put in the white spring. I rode it briefly but couldn't tell any difference except for winding a little higher. We'll have to drag them again before I decide one way or the other.

smblack,
How long has your brother had is 2001 Trail Boss? Did you all add a new filter? I'm asking for 2 reasons.

1. Because I have a 2000 that I've only had for a few weeks and I want to do a white spring and a new filter.

However, some of the people in the forum recommended that I wait until the Boss is "broken-in" before I change the spring. I was told that the spring would only add a few mph to top speed and give it a little more bottom end anyway. But I get the impression that the spring may not make much difference on a quad that's still new?????

2. I've looked at some old posts in here on changing springs (green and white), and filters. You don't see many posts where Boss owners chnaged a spring with out going to a K&N or Uni filter. Sorta like one compliments the other.

Anyway, before you give up on the spring check out some of the old posts in here, or beter yet see what other replies you get to this post.

Even though the Boss will never be a speed demon, you should get some advice on the spring issue. Now if your brother really wants to wake up his Boss, have him call Rick Ritter and ask about the 414 clutch kit www.rittercycle.com.
