Default 2005 700 efi power loss backfire

Have a 2005 700 sportsman efi. Have 400 hrs 4000 miles on it. After machine is warm it will lose power backfire and eventually die. At this time there is loss of power to the fan. A short time later the fan will kick on and the vehicle will start back up only to repeat itself again. Have the new T-BAP harness. The good one. No engine codes present. Checked on the ignition kit #2202602 and seems it is for 2003 and 2004 models. Have pulled allot of connectors apart and greased also took the override switch apart cleaned and greased. Any suggestions? Thanks Dave

If the fan is kicking on then off you could have a short in the fuse block wiring underneath it or in the fan relay or power relay.Plus you can direct jumper the fan and let it run a while to see if the fan itself may be the problem. The fan relay has the red,yellow/black,red/white and orange/ black wires. You can swap relays to see if it helps as they are both the same. The fan relay receives a signal from the ecu to the yellow/black wire, then to the orange/black for power on according to the manual. Also check the temp sensor on the cylinder. When cold it should ohm out at around 2.5K ohms,at around 100 degrees or so resistance should drop to 0.186 k ohms. If checking these doesn't help, then having it hooked up to Digital Wrench may save you a lot of trouble. The problem may not even be in the relay or fuse area, but an entirely different one such as the ecu itself. This is the only bad thing about efi machines.

Default 2005 700 efi power loss backfire

Thank you again old polaris tech. I will check those things. When i sent you the message yesterday i didn't mention the backfire and loss of power to the fan. I assumed the ecu and will let the dealer hook it up if sensors check out good. just learning how to use this web site. Allot of great information.
