Default Scrambler 500 starting problems

New battery and checked all the connections, they were good, sometimes it will start with the turn key perfectly and sometimes it will just click like a dead battery but the headlights are bright. Any idea what it could be?

have you done the arc trick to it? if it doesn't work, it's definitely your solenoid

Check that battery and solenoid connections are tight. If it's getting power through the solenoid to the starter, then possible starter brush wear or bendix problem. Cheap enough here if it is a starter/bendix just to replace it. DB Electrical - Scrambler

This just confirms either the starter is dirty, bushes worn,or you may have a flat spot on the armature shaft causing it to stick. When you tap on the starter you can "unstick" it for awhile, but they usually just end up sticking again.Cheap as they are now it's not worth it imo to tear one apart, replace brushes, etc as they usually don't hold up.We even sent old starters out and had a generator shop turn the armatures and clean em up and rebuild em,but quit doing this after more than half quit working after a few months.
