Lakota replaced with a Raptor
#1
My new raptor finally came in friday. What a wicked quad. I am probably going to sell one of my kawaski's but i can't decide which one. I would like to sell the 220, but my wife does not really want my lakota. I was thinking about putting the stock exhaust back on it. Do i have to rejet it? I also have a brand new chrome grab bar that was never installed. Any ideas.

Hey 14. glad you finally got it! As far as going back to stock exhaust I would say you'll have to rejet. It will richen it way up since the stock exhaust is so restrictive. I would be interested in the chrome grab bar if you are wanting to get rid of it. Oh yeah, I know you have prob. answered this for me before but did you purchase your Web cam or send you original? Did it hurt your low end or help it along with the rest of the power band? BTW- the Raptor is a bad ****. I can't wait to hear what you think after she's broke in. I read a test on the new Canondale 400 too. It will out run a Raptor in the drag and top end. With as quick as the Raptor is, that's unreal. Great purchase 14.

stebob- i ordered a web cam but when the mechanic pulled mine out they were not the same. We mailed my cam to web to be reworked. It really did not lose much on the bottom IMO. With stock gearing it run a honest 60 mph. I will send you the grab bar if you want it. It is a chrome mojo kawi bar. the aftermarket dg mojo bar would not work because of some spacers.I don't know how to e-mail or retrive mail to figure out how to mail you the grab bar. I'll check with my wife on that one. I really have not ridden the raptor much, but what little i have ridden it, it flat hauls the mail. I weigh about 185# and it is hard to keep the front wheels on the ground. I plan on getting a exhaust,k@n and jetting for it. Does not need it, but i want it. I'll probably have the only raptor that will never get jumped.

14., that would be great! To email me all you have to do is click the "email" button (in red) right above my post. This should bring up a new message page with my email address already put in place. All you should have to do is type your message to me and press send. It should come right to me. Once I get your message I can reply right back to you and I'll have your e address too. We can "talk" from there. Back to the important details. :-), how much did Web charge to rework your cam and how long did they take? When they "reworked" it, what exactly did they do, do you know? Did you install the cam all by itself with the exhaust and all already done, or did you do it all at once? If everything else was already done, how much of a diff. did you notice just by adding the cam? What kind of pain in the @$$ was it to do? Did you degree in your cam? Sorry to pound with so many questions 14., but as always I appreciate the info..

Stebob- I installed the k@n air filter, pipe myself. The next day i took it in and had the jet kit put in. A few weeks later i had the mechanic order the cam.I think it was 115.oo dollars. When he pulled mine out something was different. If i remember correctly it was something to do with a gear or whatever. Anyway he called web and the asked him to send it in. They kept it for about 10 days. They did not charge me for it. I don't think at the time they had a cam availble for the lakota. There catalog listed 2 cams for the bayou 300. This was 2 years ago-can't quite remember. It was a big improvement over stock. On a track that i have at my house, i had a 1st gear tight corner exit out to a slight uphill straightaway hit 2nd and it would pull the front wheels 2 1/2 feet off the wheels thru 2 gear.Top speed with gps is 60 mph. I do not know what the speed was before. My guess would be 52mph. I think the way it is set up know it would pull a 1 tooth larger front sprocket. It was a mistake when i went 1 tooth down. I really like my Lakota, i just wanted more grunt off the bottom. I like the way the honda 250 ex takes off from a stop in 1 and 2 gear.I made 50 calls looking for a high compression piston and could not locate one. 4 stroke tech does have one but he would not sell it to me. My mechanic would mill the head for me. I really did not want to do that.Overall for the money i think the Lakota is the second best quad made. The raptor is number 1. The weather has been terrible down here, but what little i have ridden it, it has one wicked motor. The tires really grab and you are gone.I was one the farm to market road in front of my house the other night and going into 4th gear it would spin the back tires. You hit the gas on the raptor and boom. I wish i could have gooten some more out of the Lakota. 3 years on the lakota only 1 trip for repair.(trash in the carb)They put a filter on it. I left it outside a i think my little boy took the gas cap off and it rained 2 inches.

Thanks 14. Did you try to email me? I am from TX as well as most of my family (who is mainly still down there). I am not familiar with Aledo however. I was born in San Antonio, moved to San Angelo, shortly thereafter toDallas, and all over around there when I was younger. Moved to Indy with my parents when I was 13. 26 now (27 next Fri. though). Did you really feel the 250EX had better pull off the line than your Lakota?? Not to doubt you, but I can hardly believe that. Granted I have not ridden a 250EX, but I couldn't imagine it would even run as good as mine. That may be arrogant, but I am surprised. I do know they say it outruns it in a drag race in the mags comparisons and has a higher top end. I don't agree with what they said about hill climbing against the Lakota. Mine has made up many very itimidating inclines and ride a nice wheelie on the flat top above, no prob.

Stebob, Web has a couple of grinds that will fit your motor. Check them out at webcaminc.com. I suggest the hard weld. it cost 95.00 i think and they weld up the lobes of your cam and then grind the new profile on the lobe. Takes about two weeks turn around time. If you are halfway mechanically inclined you should be able to do the job yourself. Get a "real Kawasaki" manual and you should be ok. If you put in a bigger cam, see if you can find a mojave carb. It looks just like the lakota carb and will fit right on but is 2 mm larger. adds a little power. Make sure you jet it right for your quad.
