I have a 07 brute 750. I got it half way running. The guy said it has a fully rebuklt motor but he was never able to get it running well. The 1st thing i did was check compression. 62 lbs each cylinder. I rebuilt the carbs. it s still doing the same thing. Sputters and backfires thru the carb when you give it gas. Idles ok. So im thinking it is a timing issue. Does anybody have advice on that. Is there a way to adjust it without pulling the heads?

 

have you checked the carb for vacuum leaks? i had one doing the same and it had a leak between motor and carb i used a little rtv to seal and let it qure 24 hours

 

No its possible but all the rubber boots looked good to me. I'll check it over to make sure though. Thanks

 

62 LBS of compression is a in the low side.
1. Rebuilt motor
2.low compression. 62lbs both cylinders rebuild epic fail idk?
3.cam timing could be wrong valves opening to soon or late lowering compression.
4 cam timing could be 180 degrees out since guy who rebuilt it never got it to run!

It's not an epic fail on the compression lol. The Brutes have an auto decompression cam which makes the compression between 55-65lbs normally

 

66LBS TO BE EXACT. I didn't say your motor was an epic fail, i meant it would be unlikley that both cylinders would fail at the same time. I was only trying to help you as you where asking for some. Not sure if you want help or to pic apart advice and find some small detail to try an correct as the info was taken out of context and specifics where not given. So why does the compression release only drop it down to 66lbs? why not 56 or 46? Good luck with you BROKE FORCE!

 

So 62lbs compression is way low compared to 66lbs?

 

I did find a couple vaccum leaks. I havent had time to fix them but thank you for your advice. I will let you know how it runs soon as I get them fixed.
