Default DS650 Battery problems Please help mechanic nightmare!

So I just got a 2002 DS 650 I was out riding some trails and my battery cable broke off the terminal on my battery so I took it in to the shop. They replaced the battery as well as the cables. After they finished they called me to pick it up but threw in that it isn't running. So I head down there listen to them attempt to start it and it sounds like the starter isn't engaging. So I look at the job they did and notice the battery cables were installed backwards causing the starter to spin backwards I guess. So they fixed that and I just took it out and my brand new battery was already dead. I take it to the same shop and they tell me my regulator and stater are bad... could this be from them installing the cables backwards? they swear its not and want to charge me money to fix it?
Also, they said they tested it when changing the battery and everything was fine.

Hooking up the cables backwards blew the diodes in the regulator/rectifier.
