Default 04 sportsman 400 speedometer & cluster out

I have an 04 sportsman that the speedometer and digital cluster went out. The digital cluster had been flashing previously. Sometimes had to wiggle power switch to start. Still starts & runs. Any thoughts?

Check the wiring under the headlight pod. This is the area where most shorts happen because of all the twisting and turning. Could be as simple as the switch connector or harness short or the main connector wiring going to the speedo. Bad area also for the yellow high beam headlight wire and ground(brown) wire problems.

Thanks. Took the top off for quick inspection but did not notice anything out of order. Will check closer this weekend. Didn't know if there was a fuse I could check or not.

You have to dig deep to sometimes find the problem if it's a wiring short. There is a 20 amp thermal circuit breaker in a sealed pouch up from the battery usually tucked under the rear fender. They can cause problems if the connections are corroded. To eliminate it as the problem you can slice the pouch open and check the two terminals,if ok,just silicone the connections and tape the pouch back up. If in doubt about it you can get this breaker at most auto stores for a few bucks.

The brown ground wire for the speedo ties into a splice with 3or4 brown wires on the way to the ground at the coil. Mine had a problem here (it`s an `02)

Okay. Replaced speedo cluster , still nothing. Have voltage to big connector. No voltage to 3 wire plug ( red, white, black ). Any suggestions ? Thanks for your help. Ready to jump wires for AWD ANYWAY.

Try this if you haven't already.
Plus are you talking about the hall effect sensor harness for the speed sensor?
