Default 06 Polaris sportsman 500 EFI

Runs for about 2 miles then shuts down starts right back up runs for 2 miles and shuts down. Bike was sitting for 2 years only 150 hours. I changed gas, spark plug, fuel filter, air filter, gas vent lines and check valves. If I turn the ignition switch off and on when it starts to shutdown it will keep running.

Turn the key on and see if you can hear the pump prime up.Best way to check is to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail, turn the key on(don't start it!),open the air bleed valve to expel trapped air and close the valve. Pressure should hold at 39 psi with no drop.If it's lower or erratic, could be a weak fuel pump about to go out. If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge,a lot of auto stores have ones you can rent.If fuel pressure is okay, could just be a short in the switch wiring under the headlight pod.A lot of wiring problems occur here.

The problem was a bad fuel pump. I have another problem with my other sportsman 06 500 efi. I was riding it and it just stop no bog down just stopped. It will crank but wont start. I checked vent line, etc, air filter, sounds like fuel pump is working. Any idea what it could be.

Most common problems on the efi machines were the thin sensor wiring and connectors shorting out.Codes may or may not show up. Look at this "sticky" post from the expert section and see if it may help.Mainly about the 700/800 machines, but includes the 500 efi also.https://atvconnection.com/forums/pol...ap-wiring.html You can also check for bare or soft feeling wires wires from the map sensor and tps sensor. Sometimes even jiggling the wiring harness may give a response if it's a wiring problem. Plus don't overlook a bare wire from the crank sensor harness that runs close under the throttle body. Just one small bare wire can ground out spark. Make sure it's not touching the engine. The link shows where you can get a better harness kit than offered from Polaris if it's needed. Only The Best
Another problem on this model is the module down by the radiator that can short out.Has several circuit breakers and functions.I've had to replace few of these.

Did it have the ECM recall done ATV: Polaris Ind. expands recall of ATVs or is that only for the carbed model not the EFI model, can't remember.

When that brain box acts up all kinds of strange things can happen.

Carb models only on the ecm recall list. Some efi models like his 2006 500 efi had even more complicated electronic control modules.
