Good Evening.....New to the forum and hoping to find some information on my "new" purchase. Don't know much about it yet but it seems to run fine. It does not smoke from the exhaust, but noticed the airbox had a significant amount of oil in it and oil and vapor comes out of the crankcase vent tube. Oil seems to be the correct color and and not over full. I have noticed some rattling coming from the engine. Any help would be appreciated. Forgive me if this has been previously addressed.

Oil in the airbox indicates worn rings or valve seals but if the exhaust doesn’t smoke blue I wouldn’t worry, just check the oil level regularly. The 300 engine will run whilst producing more blue smoke than a chainsaw. Rattles from the engine can be anything from excessive valve clearance to piston slap from an engine that has “nipped up” in the past.

Thanks for the info Merryman. I have had a couple of friends listen to it and we formed the conclusion the slap is coming from a loose and/or worn timing chain. Going to do a top end rebuild while we're at it. Hopefully, that should take care of any issues.
