I have a 2002 Sportsman 500, I have purchased the factory service manual. I want to change the transmission fluid. In the maintenance section it says to refill with approx. 20 ounces. But in the section that lists fluid capacity it says the transmission holds 32 ounces.

Is the difference between a fluid change and a complete tear down?

Several years of manual do this and confuse people. 32 ounces is for total rebuild,20 ounces is for normal drain and refill.
