Hello i just bought a 03 Polaris Predator 500 and the recent owner kept it outside all winter, I got it to run and idle the battery is toast but when i jump it, it will run and idle withe jumper cables on the car we disconnect them and the quad shuts right off any ideas thanks.

 

First thing I'd do is replace the battery before you do any damage to the electronics. If the battery is toast as you say,it won't allow 12 volts on it's own to keep the atv running once you remove the booster cables.

 

But my honda 400ex would run off nothing.

 

This is a dc/cdi system and relies on 12 volts directly from the battery to the cdi unlike the older style magneto induction system that supplies power directly from the stator for ignition.
