Default 2002 Sportsman shift box

I looked in the search results and found nothing specific. Have a n '02 Sportsman 400 and there is oil leaking around the exit shafts on the bottom of the shift box itself. It appears that the seals around the shafts at the bottom of the rig are to blame. Any ideas on the fix for this and what kind of oil should be used? Thanks in advance Bob P.

Seals on the shift slides leaking. Don't know what size, but you might can match these up at a good hardware store. When you pull the linkage ends off check for back and forth slack on the shifter while in neutral and in forward range.May have some other worn parts that need replacing if there is a lot of slack. These shift boxes wear over time and linkage has to be kept adjusted if hard to get in gear or tries to lock up. I'd use 0w40 in this shifter. Fill to where the oil lever just covers the shift levers. Item #12 on the o-rings. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Thanks OPT! I'll go out to the garage and pull it apart shortly. It is a beautiful day here in Maine for a change, it is hard to be in the garage.

Yup! A couple of "O" rings from the hardware store and some oil and bingo, the problem is solved. Thanks again to OPT !!
