2002 sportsman 700 stuck in low gear

If pulling down on the lock out detent spring doesn't help, you might try rocking the atv back and forth and try to get the shift lever moving. If this still doesn't help, then check the sub assembly gears especially #60- 63 on the parts break down. I've had problems there if the factory grease is contaminate and gears are rusty. If these gears are ok,then it could be the strange wide shift forks and wave springs this transmission uses(19,20) that can cause problems with this transmission on locking up.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Be careful on any disassembly of these gears as they are indexed at certain points. Gears are not marked. Best if you have a manual on this model that shows you step by step. If you don't have one, here's one for 5 bucks.https://www.tradebit.com/usr/tradema...pairManual.jpg
