Sportsman 500 won't rev with air filter connected
#1
Owned this wheeler for about 5 years now im married to it. Some days the unit will run great some days it will only go 25 mph. I had a cam put in about 75 miles ago, both clutches were rebuilt new buttons ect. Today I jacked up the rear end and ran it in gear with no load about 40mph. It started to labor when it got close to 35mph. I took the air box lid and filter out and did the same this time it went well pass 60mph. It almost seems like vacume is not opening a secondary jet. The air box housing is also new. It seems to be an air / fuel mixture problem. Not sure where to take it next. Please help

If it runs better with the air box lid off, usually running rich, needle and seat worn/sticking or float level off.If you haven't installed a new carb kit,I'd do that first.Plenty of kits on ebay for your model. Plus here's a general fuel section from the service manual on rebuilding and adjustments.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...,d.aWw&cad=rja

I installed the new carb kit last night. Fired it up ran great on the jack got a test ride in today not as good. It seems to be still running rich. I ran it around my woods and it seemed to load up and run crappier the longer i ran it. Till finally when I would give it gas it would start to die. When I rebuilt the carb the pin that runs through the plunger was worn and discolored. Any tips how to dial in the carb?

If the float arm pin is worn, same for the float arm, both can affect how it runs. Float arm can stick either allowing too much fuel or can do the opposite and not allow enough fuel to pass by the needle. Not include in the carb kits. Fuel mixture screw(mainly for idle circuit)is under the block off plug. Normally set between 2 to 2 1/2 turns or so.Order the pin and if the inner part of the float arm is worn, order it to.Do this before you try anything with the fuel adjustment setting. May solve your problems.http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...Vs&mfg=Polaris
