dead battery
#1
I went riding today and needed to winch a tree out of the trail. My battery went dead after a couple of minutes. I have an xplorer 300. Is this common for 2 strokes? My local dealer said they dont charge the battery like a 4 stroke does. Has anyone else had problems like this with their 2 strokes?

All you have to do CHARGE IT. your dealer doesn't know what he's talking about, or he's trying to sell you a $70 battery. The battery just turns the starter motor on and that turns the main engine on. A battery is a battery. Doesn't matter what kind of engine it is. don't worry about what you dealer tells you. Just go to you discount auto parts store and ask them to charge the battery.

Explorer- Funny smae thing happened to me with my 300 today. I just installed a 2000 Warn and wanted to rewind and stretch the cable as per the manual. I free-spooled out the cable almost to the end and hooked it to my trucks frame. I started winching in but without the moter running. I got to within about 4 ft. of the truck and the winch stopped! I tried to start the motor and NOTHING!! I guess you cannot use the winch without keeping the motor running. Or maybe my battery is on its way out. I put the charger on it and it charged right up. Dont know for how long it will stay that way but I will try the winch thing tomorrow.I am told that these little batteries dont last very long. Mine is the original battery that was in it in 99. Good luck.

Its pretty common on these small batteries to run out of life after about one season unfortunatly, The good thing is they only tun about $30 but they only come with a 90 day warranty that kind of gives a hint to there longevity

the battery on my 300 explorer did the same thing, i went to start it one day and it was DEAD!!, so i pulled it off and checked it, the thing was bone dry. so i added water and put on charge for a couple hours and it workes fine. by the way, it is 5 years old and still kickin!!! So make sure that you water level is ok, and get it charged

IT must be going around like the flu. Was using mine over the weekend (2000 warn winch) after about 1hr, engine running, the battery went dead I checked the water level, bone dry. I added distilled water through it on trickel charge for a night and its back to as good as new.

My battery is new and full of water. This happens every time I use the winch. I pull about a minute and the battery goes dead. I charge it and its ok until I use the winch again. I finally bought a small lawm tractor battery(20 bucks WALMART), works lots better with both batteries hooked up.
