Gearbox making noise Redcat 150cc
#1
So I have a redcat MPX150 that is making a screeching like metal sound from inside the gearbox. You can roll the rear end by hand up on jackstand and hear it. Sometime is louder than other times and sometimes it doesnt do it. Any idea what is going on here? And where do I drain the gearbox from and fill it back up? How do I know when its full and what type of gear oil? Thank in advance!!

Both of mine had a plug on the bottom.. they had about 4 ozs of oil in it.. I put 6 ozs or 80wt-90 in it.. It is fairly easy to take apart..I had a bent output shaft on My Jetmoto 150 that needed replacing.

Agreed. There will always be a drain plug at the very bottom, same as a car engine. Drain it and see if you get any metal particles in it. If it's got some metal in it, your gonna need to take that gearbox apart. You can go the inexpensive route and use 10/30 weight motor oil. There should also be a small bolt on the side which you remove while putting oil. Once it's full, it will start to drain out the side hole.
I always use Honda 80w/85w tranny oil in my ATV's.
