Default YFM100 Axle Breather Tube/Fitting

Hello all.

I'm rebuilding the rear end on my 1987 YFM100 and I have what is called an axle breather tube attached to this fitting on my gear housing. It looks like a grease fitting, but after I cleaned it there was no valve portion to it. Just a hole going straight through into my gear housing. See photos.

What I'm wondering is if this is correct and I just need to make sure my breather tube stays attached and the end high and out of water, or if it should be more like a grease fitting that I can replace from the store. My service manual doesn't call for adding grease to the gear housing on any regular schedule that I can tell.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

It is what it says, a breather, so all you do is have a tube running up high enough so that water can't get in.
