Could be anything. Can you change into 3/4/5 with the manual shift lever? Does the gearchange indicator start to blink? If so, how many short blinks in between the long ones?

Shift motor maybe? Would that keep me from shifting it manually? The machine has alot of hours but it's been taking good care of

I can't remember what 8 blinks is, will check the manual at work. However if you can't get the high gears with the emergency lever, it seems like you have a mechanical problem. Probably something broken or loose in the selector mechanism, inside the clutch housing. It may be worth taking the shift motor and gearing off, and then checking if you can change manually. Also taking a look inside the shift motor. There is a good post on here somewhere about how to do this, but the motors are pigs to get back together.

Well I was riding it around last night it finally shifted into 2nd but then it won't shift back to first but while down shifting with the es I tapped the es motor with a wrench and it shifted down. So I pulled the motor apart the brushes are pretty worn and there was alot of dust but nothing looked broken. But anything is possible I guess the bike has 1,000 hours but has been taking care of.

Eight blinks is the angle sensor, according to the manual for the 350, I can't find the book for the 450. I would check if you can change manually before re-fitting the motor. If you can, it is probably the angle sensor at fault.

Thanks for the advice it still want shift manually I'm pretty sure it's the shift star cause if you keep playing with it. It will eventually shift and no problem through other gears
