Default 1984 big red

ok got a big red. 1984 200es
needed a carb so I bought a carb a cheap import it wont adjust well
my problem is hard to shift. when I turn the bike off it run through the gears fine when its running hard to shift. its ideling kinda high
anybody ever had this problem?
or any thing I should try before putting it in the repair shop

Being a slide carburettor, the stop in the side of the slide should be easily adjustable to give a steady idle. As it is a non genuine carb, you may need to alter the idle mixture screw as well. I avoid this if possible, but never fit new carbs anyway. Also the clutch may need adjustment, slacken the lock-nut, screw in the "decrease" direction until "resistance is felt" then back about 1/4 turn, and tighten the nut.
