Default 02 Scrambler fan not turning on

My fan won't turn on. Last trip it was working like a champ. I noticed, maybe I just didn't hear it while the engine was running, that it would kick on when the engine was off with key on. This trip, I stopped and turned off the quad and turned the key on. Instead of the fan going, the temp light came on. So I let it cool, drank a coke, then got going again. There is a broken wire I used a but connecter on, but that was before the last trip. I am currently 1 day into a 3 day ride weekend. Any suggestions? Going check wires with a multimeter when I get back to the cottage.

Ok, I got it figured out. It is either the switch in the rad, or the harness inline between the switch and the fan motor. I am going to clean the harness as it was full of dust. If it doesnt work, I will run a manual switch and fuse for the fan.

If the fan is intermittent, check the fan circuit breaker in the plastic pouch under the front panel for corrosion. You can split the pouch open, replace the breaker if needed from any auto supply. If the radiator sensor is the problem(usually they short out and fans won't come on) you can replace these with a Wells Sw526 also from any auto supply. Just use you oem connector end.

Thanks Polaris Tech. There was a lot of dust and corrosion in that harness for the switch. So I am going to clean it up. I bypassed the switch and the fan motor was going like a bat out of hell. So the circuit breaker is good. My plan is to hit up the O'Reillys and get some wire, a fuse, and a switch. I will reconnect the rad switch, and if it over heats I will just set up a manual switch. I'm not paying $66 for a new rad switch.

Don't hook up a fan manually as you may end up letting it get too hot. You can get the Wells sensor for less than 25 bucks that will do the same thing as the oem.Duralast/Cooling Fan Switch - Radiator SW526- ReadReviews onDuralast #SW526

That was my only concern with that setup. If I replace the switch, I have to flush the rad. That isnt a bad thing, I just dont want to do that. How much coolant does the rad hold?

You don't have to flush the radiator.. Just have the new sensor ready, unplug and unscrew the old one and quickly install the new one and hook it up. Leave the radiator cap off, let the fan cycle on and off to remove any possible trapped air pockets, top off the radiator, replace the cap. Job done..

Alright, I will probably do that. I am looking for the Oreillys version of that part right now.

If you have the same rad switch as my 2001 Sportsman 500H.O you can get them cheap at any auto store. Just say you need a rad switch for a 84-88 Nissan Maxama or a 86-89 Stanza.
I,m currently using a Blue Streak TS-127 but their are more from Wells and Napa.
