lights flicker
#1
To anyone that can help! I recently purchased a used 07 polaris trail boss 330. It had some issues runability wise. I discovered the ecm was fried and replaced it also found starter solenoid not engaging and replaced it as well. Battery is junk but can pull start to run. Now my lights flicker head and taillights and trans cooler fan runs spuratically and temp light comes on. What could be left to cause this issue?

Start with a new fresh battery first. Has to have constant 12 volts for lights to operate properly along with constant power going into the ecm that controls the charging, fan, hot lights, etc. Hopefully battery will solve your problems.Plus running without the battery for an extended time can possibly cause damage to electrical components along with that new ecm module.

That was my plan this weekend. I know the ecm controls charging but do these have a stater or magneto that actually charges the battery? Also with the cooler fan could that possibly be the thermistor going bad, the reason I say that is because of when I first got it the fan would run even with the key of which I assume was related to the ecm being fried. But since I replaced the ecm it still comes on spuratically with the temp light on also.

Volt meter stayed at ol on all points of thermistor but I unplug thermistor and fan still runs can I jump it to confuse it to make fan not run

Unplugging the thermistor and the fan keeps running is probably because the fan section the ecm may have shorted out again when you ran it with the dead battery. The ecm replaced the older thermistor module and incorporates it along with charging, etc all in the ecm. Just my two cents on this,I'd check that the ecm is at least charging 14 volts back to the battery. If so,at least that part of the ecm is still good. I'd run the fan on a toggle and kick the fan on when under loads or slow driving for extended periods of time. To be honest with you most people never have heard their fans kick on these oil cooled machines unless they got super hot. I hardly ever got one hot enough to have the fan kick on one that I had in the shop for service.Plus there are oil cooled machines out there that don't have fans to begin with. Either toggle the fan or if you're really picky about this, spring for another ecm. There is a fan circuit breaker under the front panel in a sealed pouch, but don't think it would be the cause of the continuous fan operation, but worth a look see. Just check that it has power in and out of the breaker. Item #2 in the parts breakdown. http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...07&fveh=284171 Plus to make matters worse seems like the thermistor (4010934) is NLA at most online places.. Plus with the thermistor designed to kick the fan on at 260 degrees, off at 240,another good reason to just toggle it.
