Default Honda Recon loose differential cables

Just bought a Honda Recon and on the rear differential there are 2 loose cables that lead nowhere. They are more like 2 small hoses but just curious does anyone know what these are for? Should they be connected to anything? Thanks

They are the breathers for the rear brake and diff, and must run high enough up to be above water level when you go through deep water, they also need to end somewhere where rain water isn't going to get into them either. If I remember rightly Honda end them pointing downwards through a bracket moulded into the snorkel tube or tank.
