Hey guys, I cleaned everything out completely on my carb. All passageways are super clean, jets are clean, and I can see light coming through them. I've removed/cleaned/reassembled the carb several times and still the same issue. It starts up nicely with the choke, idles great. When you apply 50% or more throttle, it just bogs down and wants to die. If the choke is on, I can give more than 50% throttle, but it is just very very sluggish. I've read all the threads on carb problems here, and I haven't made any progress. I've adjusted the clip on the main needle to all positions, and doesn't really seem to make a difference. When the air/fuel screw is turned all the way in (lean), it seems to be a bit better, but when turned out a turn or two, it just wants to die, and I have to turn the idle all the way in in order to keep it running. Not sure what else to do, I've tried every adjustment combination and nothing seems to improve. I do have a champion equivalent instead of a NGK plug, could that be the problem? I've read that that solved someones issue. I read somewhere that there is an upgraded carb that is a direct fit, which one is that? If I can't get this one straightened out, I will be looking for a replacement.

Have you cleaned all the little holes in the sides of the needle jet? Very easy to miss i missed several times when cleaning one of my carbs. Also have you checked for any air leaks around the carb?

 

I thought I noticed that they were clean. They are pretty large openings right? I have not checked for leaks, how would I go about doing that?

 

No they are pretty small holes about the size of a sewing needle easy to miss

 

Don't know how I missed those. Cleaned them out pretty good, it's now runnig about 90% better. It idles good, and will go full speed without bogging if you slowly roll on the throttle. Only problem yet is the transition between low speed and wide open throttle, there is still a little bog when you mash the accelerator quickly. Suppose I still have some cleaning to do, or should I raise the needle a notch or two? It's on the middle notch right now, and it's about 30 degrees here.

 

Haha... easy to miss... I would bring the carb back to base settings on all adjustments and tweek from their.. now it just sounds like tuning

 

I'd do a compression test if troubles continue.

 

I'm not sure if compression is a problem, it runs extremely well at WOT, just doggy at low RPM and transitioning from low rpm to WOT. I think it's starving for fuel down low. I can actually hear it sort of gasping while idling. Do the floats ever need adjusted on these carbs?

 

Yeah, last night I did a few quick course adjustments from where it was at, got it slightly better, but still not good at the lower rpms. Next I will try to baseline both adjustments and work in small increments. I have the main needle adjustment clip set on the middle slot, is that adjustment mainly for WOT, or would it also effect the transition between low and high throttle?

 

iv never really played with the needle settings. I think it makes the machine run rich or lean throughout the rpm range but i could be wrong
