What is the average labor cost to replace a drive belt on a Polaris 700 G force? I purchased the belt myself but want to get a mechanic to install it and was wanting to know the average cost please.

Gates G-Force belt? If so you can easily change it yourself.Just lift up the center of the belt and roll the old one off the rear clutch.Start the new one on the drive clutch and turn the rear clutch to work the new one around and let it snap on. Most dealers would charge you between .5 to 1 hr labor in most cases. With labor at most shops now hitting close to 100 bucks an hr you can save yourself some money.

 

About one hour of labor. Most shops charge 75-80 per hour. I have a local mechanic in my small town who works on just about anything with an engine and charges a little less, about 60 bucks an hour. He's a much quicker turn around than the dealer as well. I usually will just buy the part myself and bring the machine and part to him and I'll get it back in a couple days. A belt might not sound difficult but if you install it wrong it won't last very long and you're buying another $100 belt(or more) in a couple months because it will get chewed up quickly. I think that's what happened a couple years ago on my Grizzly 660. The previous owner put a new belt on and did it incorrectly and it lasted about 2 months before it actually broke in half.

 

Not to be stupid but how can you put a belt on wrong?

 

You can't really at least on Polaris machines. The manual says to install the belts with the lettering facing you. This is to aid in replacing it the way it was running if you ever take one off and reinstall it. You can install it it either way as long as you remember which way it was on if you have to tear into the clutches. Just makes it easier for most people to install them the way the manual says.

 

In the case of the Grizzly, there were other parts that were worn out that didn't get replaced. The new belt worked fine for a couple months but got quickly chewed up. I have heard of people putting the wrong belt on too.

 

You can take it to a mechanic if you want to but you can do it at home in 1/2 hour. I don't do much mechanical work but I have changed a couple of belts and it was easier than in this video.

 

the longest part of a belt change on the wifes 01 500ho is getting the floorboard out of the way to pull the belt cover. Simple job to swap a belt.

 

Yupp, its easy. If you have access to an air compressor, blow the clutches off. Please wear PPE.
