Older models have a clip on the end of the shaft that you just had to knock on the cv joint to remove the cv from the shaft. On assembly you used a dead blow hammer or a block of wood and hammer to reseat it. Later models had a small snap ring that you had to pry open and then tap the cv joint off. To reassemble you had to open the snap ring back up to insert the shaft.

2008 500(if that's what you have) shows a plain circlip on the wheel end cv joint and the spread apart snap ring on the plunging joint side for the rear drive shafts. Front drive shafts just have the circlip,you should be able to knock the cv off the shaft.

You've got one in there on the shaft that locks in a recess on the cv cage. See if this video helps. Look starting at the 3:00 mark.

Make sure when you reassemble the cage,bearings into the cv housing, that the circlip locks into the cage firmly and can't easily pull out.Most say to replace the circlip,but if undamaged I've reused them. If you're using oem style clamps once you use a pair of earless type clamp pliers you'd cuss needle nose pliers,channel locks,etc.Plus 9 times out of 10 you'll destroy the clamps. Good addition to any tool box and not that expensive. Same goes for the ear type clamp pliers for tha style of clamp. Most auto stores have them hanging up.Sears.com
