Default crank shaft end play 96 400 scrambler ec38ple05

i ordered a manual online but its very veuge and doesn't go into much detail, for the 250 and 300 its there, but nothing on the 400. With the crank and bearings, the width measures to 4.4645" and the case width from bearing seat to seat is 4.493. so that leaves a .028 space. there was a shim in there but it got all tore up. Is the correct crankshaft end play .008" - .016" on the 400? the shim was a .012" so that would put me within spec, but it got all tore up when the bearing failed.

Same as the 250/300. Just get the 3084779 shim 0.3mm(0.118") When you install the crank and button the cases up if the rod is a little stiff to turn, whack both sides of the shaft ends straight on with a dead blow hammer. That'll solve it and the rod will turn freely. I can't remember a 400 engine or a 250 for that matter that I didn't have to do that. You almost never get it dead on the first time when you rebuild a crank shaft.
