Been sitting 4 months +/-, put on charger. Will turn over and run as long as the key is turned. But the starter is still engaged. As soon as the key is released it dies. Turn the key to start it and it just turns over. Spark isn't the issue because it will run, will a completely dead battery cause this? Last time it was running it was flawless! During ice fishing season. Not sure if something went wrong then.

all bikes do need a 12 volt charged battery to maintain it to run. usually if the charging system is working decent then it might hold until it charges the battery. did you put fuel stabilizer in when you parked it? gas does go bad and can clog up the carb but i'm thinking 4 months it shouldn't in that time frame.

I did not use fuel stabilizer. But it will run when the key stays in the start position, but the starter is still engaged. So I don't think the fuel is bad. My first thought was a dead battery, even though it's only 1 year old. As soon as I let go of the key it dies.
