Carb on a Polaris
#1
I have a Explorer 300 and had some problems with it not starting if I left the gas on. It works fine if I turn the gas off after use. I took it to the dealer and he say some machines will flood if the gas is left on and some will not. Does anyone else have this problem?

It could be dirt in your the needle/seat that shuts off fuel flow to the carb. Take your carb apart an spray out the little needle operated by the floats with carb cleaner. If that doesn't do it try replacing the needle and check to make sure the seat is in good shape.

The needle is pushed into the seat by the floats as the bowl fills with fuel. It isn't a needle that you can tighten. If you have any more questions feel free to Email me at sabhburdick@netzero.net.

I had the same experience with gas running on the ground while setting with the fuel on. The first dealer told me it was a defective fuel selector valve. I have had motorcycles before and know how needle and seat problems are common place with these types of carbs. The second dealer confirmed my thoughts and tore into it.( It was under warranty) They found the needle was drove into the seat so far it couldn't possible function properly. They replaced the needle and seat free and it took care of the problem.

I realize that this is not a quad, but, my old XT600 Yamaha would NOT start if I left the fuel on. If I turned off the fuel at the end of the ride, it would start up on the second kick. With the fuel on, I would have to be towed to get it to start. Have you ever been towed by your wife with a pick-up and camper? Later, Dave
