Post 2004 DS650 won’t shift out of neutral

Been reading a lot of scenarios about possible shift fork problems or neutral switch issue. But I was riding and stopped to wait on a friend shifted it to neutral and when I went to shift to take off it won’t engage into gear. I have a Magura hydraulic clutch so at first I check it, nothing. I’m wondering if it’s actually something with the clutch though. When I go to shift it feels as if it clicks and goes into gear, neutral light goes off but doesn’t grab just stays in neutral. Any ideas? Don’t feel like tearing into the motor so fast. Bike has never slipped out of gear and nothing was odd feeling shifting before it happened. I think I’m going to try and check the neutral switch then pull the clutch’s apart and clean. Any info as to possible solutions would be great. I just don’t feel it’s the shift fork because it’s not slipping out of gear and just is stuck in neutral.
