crud in oil

Default crud in oil

i have a honda 350 fortrax just did oil change noticed some crud in the oil.I just rebuilt the top end because of smoking problem.Ive never sunk this machine can dirt be getting in past the pull rope seal .If so can i replace that seal without splitting the case and is flushing case a few times food enough to remove the crud?

The big question is....what is the "crud" ...metal, dirt, carbon deposits, old oil deposits? Could mean little or be very serious!

the "crud" is thick black in color with some grit to it doesn"t seem to have metalic fleck in it sticks to fingers when u remove it .i found it in oil filter casing and some in oil pail when i drained old oil.

Sounds like you are sucking dirt into the engine. Through the carb? Hows your air cleaner?

Sounds a lot more like some carbon from the top of the old piston fell into the bottom end when you had the cylinder off. That is about the only way hard carbon is going to get down there.
