Default KYMCO MXU 250 Thermostat Question

So I just got my Kymco MXU 250 Running with a new carburetor and there are some minor cleanup to do on it and some other tiny things but I was running it around for about 5 - 10 minutes and the fan didn't come on so I let it idle for probably another 5 mins and still didn't come on. As per someone's suggestion on here I connected the two Thermostat wires to each other and the fan comes on but doesn't when connected to the Thermostat. So my question for anyone is, is the Thermostat bad and is there a way to check it with a multimeter? My other question is what if I connected a toggle switch to it and just turned the fan on while running it would that be fine. Let me know thanks.

Had my machine out last saturdy, it was 50 + degrees. Ran for half hour and fan never did come on. During summer trail riding when temps were well into 70's the fan never came on unless we stopped and set for 10-15 min. Check the temp on line comming from engine, if to hot to touch then you might be up to temp.

Also might add, the Kymco machines are not Chinese, they are made in Tiwian, totally different country with much better quality control. They build for Honda, suzuki, artic cat and textron. Very good quality machines and replacement parts are availiable unlike Chinese models.

Ah, I did not know that yeah I rode around about 40° Fahrenheit weather for the 5 - 10 mins I wasn't sure how to tell if it was overheating maybe it wasn't hot enough, I'll know for sure on Thursday when I get my laser infrared thermometer it was getting too hot to touch the radiator was but could still have been under the 185° range I guess. I have a heat gun and if I heat the sensor up while connected to the two wires do you think that would kick it on or would it need to be in the antifreeze.?

You take the sensor out, connect an ohm meter across it then plunge it into hot water (just off boiling) in a cup, if it shows continuity when hot, and then open circuit once it cools down a bit, it is OK. For accuracy you can use the thermometer to check the exact temp it switches off. My guess would be circa 70 degrees centigrade.
