I was riding my 2000 xplorer 250 the other day and discovered the 4wd won't engage. After I got the machine "unstuck" I put it in the shed but noticed neither the neutral or reverse lights are working. It isn't unusual for the neutral light not to work as it does that from time to time intermittently but the reverse light has always worked as far as I know until now. This model doesn't have a speedometer. The AWD light doesn't come on now but the headlight and the brake lights work. I can't help but think these issues are all connected but I would like someone with more experience to weigh in. I'm ordering a service manual but if someone has a good idea where to look I will greatly appreciate it.

 

first thing is do is make sure you are getting connections where power goes. clean all the wire connections and test to see if power is getting through. check the awd switch the same way. check where the transmission switch is to make sure good contact and working. these would be starting points to try first.
