Roketa atv 250cc problem child.

Hi Folks. New to chinese atvs and judging from other posts on this forum each atv has their specific quirks. Mine started when I first removed it from the shipping cage they sent it to me in. Just a basket case from the start. The wiring for the handlebar electrics was not soldered correctly so I had to start by rewiring all the lights and electrical components associated with the handlebars (kill switches etc). The brake light housing was falling off...will fix that later. The battery has a full charge now so I figured I would see if it would start. Ran for about 30 seconds and quit. During that initial start it ran at full throttle and the exhaust got so hot it was glowing red. Would not start again. Noticed that several wires had melted thru during that initial start. Adjusting the PZ30 carb made no difference in the throttle speed. Replaced PZ30 carb with same effect...full throttle wide open then abrupt stop. Checked to determine fuel flow at the carb. The filter seems to fill up but will not supply a constant flow of fuel. Replaced the fuel filter with same results. have also changed the rectifier and the CDI and still have the same problem. At my witts end . Any suggestions guys and gals

For a bike to run at full throttle, the slide or butterfly has to be fully open, as two different carbs have been tried, the cable must be sticking, preventing the slide/butterfly from closing, you will be able to see this by looking down the carb. Incidentally, if you get uncontrolled revving like this, switch off right away, what damage the engine will have suffered on it's first start, with all tolerances as tight as they will ever be, can only be imagined.
I wouldn't buy any Chinese bike over 125cc (or Taiwanese either, sorry Kymco). The big makers produce good 250s that keep their value. If you can't afford new, I would guess a good used Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha 250 could be bought for the price of that new Roketa.

i would agree with above something is causing the carb to stick wide open. Or the cable/trottle is mis adjusted their should be slack on the cable before the carb starts to open. Should have shut it down within a few seconds if it was at full throttle if the burb of the throttle did not clear it. The biggest issue i have seen with the machines is the carb that comes on them is a sealed unit with no adjustments need to put a better carb on that can be adjusted and bowl removed.. If you open up the drain on the fuel bowl do you get a steady flow of fuel? it does not take allot of fuel to keep the bowl full...

As soon as the weather in my garage gets above freezing I will check all the suggestions you folks have made. I thank you one and all and I will be giving this piece of chinese crap away as soon as possible.

You guys were right on with your suggestions. I must have had this chinese atv apart so may times I think we are now blood brothers from all my knuckles being scraped in the tight places I had to work in. BUT it was the slide in the carb that was not operating properly and staying wide open. What a wonderful sounding engine when it runs at idle for the first time since new. Now all I have to do is put the rest of the machine together and see if the rest of the atv works.
Thanks again to all who set me on the right path.
