rcr low end pipe
#1
I just installed my kit tonight, Pipe, silenser, plain spring, air filter, cut tube back to one inch and installed #150 main jet.. I test rode after each step and was very impressed with the power until lastly I installed the plain clutch spring. It seemed to pull the front wheels better with my stock blue/green spring. It was dark when I tried the plain spring so maybe it was spinning and I could not tell. Any suggestions?????????
Thanks in advance

Something sounds amiss Phillip,The plain spring deffinetly takes longer to shift out but on my 00 the front end gets up much easier with the plain spring, The jet with mine was a 140 are you at a high elevation? anyways im going to try the orange spring next week and ill let you know how it works,it just seems strange your old spring worked better maybe you got a bum spring I would deffinetly talk to rick tommorrow and see what he has to say about it . good luck Todd

Todd,
He would need to go leaner not richer if he were at a higher elevation. I'm curious where he lives that Rick gave him a 150 main. I'm at sea level here in Virginia and I run slightly rich with a 140 main.
Can't imagine you even being able to lift the tires with the stock blue/green spring. It is rated 0 - 110 by Polaris which means it engages slightly off idle. That little piston port engine doesn't make enough torque down low to do much.
Scott.

I live in MT AIRY NC. Rick was out of 140's. I came home at dinner today and tried again, must have been spinning last night because of dew.. when hooked up it lifts easily but I can really feel the shift alot better with the stock spring. It shifts at a lower rpm and you can feel the low end torque better. Can you get a spring that stalls like the plain yet shifts like the blu/green?????? I seems to run fine with the #150. THANKS.

I would check your plug, I'm running a 140 main at sea level and I'm slightly rich. Even with the cooler temperatures I would think you have to be running rich at your elevation. Warm up your engine good and take it to somewhere you can run wide open for about a mile. When you get there install a new spark plug and take off running wide open. After a mile of this hit the kill switch or turn off the ignition key. Pull your plug and check it. If the insulator is black you are too rich. If it is a nice light brown you are fine. If you are running too rich you are giving up free horsepower.
You need to ask Rick where this pipe makes its peak horsepower. I'm learning with my 400 how important this is setting up the clutch correctly. Jack Shultz tried to inform me there was more to making the clutch right than changing some springs. The key is using a weight that is right for your RPM. Polaris quad's come with weights too light for the RPM they make power at. They tend to rev right by there peak power and flatten out. I have the standard RCR pipe on mine and needed heavier weights. The lower your power peak (RPM) the heavier your weights for that specific engine need to be. Once you know where the pipe is designed to peak at call EPI and tell them. They will suggest a weight for that RPM. BE AWARE, heavier weights will lower your topend. Overall your quad will be quicker and much easier on belts though.
The Polaris plain spring (not to be confused with the one you are using now) will kick in at an even higher RPM and shifts out close to the blue/green. I would try the EPI orange spring (part# PATV2) (not to be confused with polaris orange). Just a better quality spring.
Scott.

I was assuming you are up on a mountain. If you aren't you should still be able to run a 140 with no problem. I ride in NC all the time and have no problems.
