Hey all. I have a friend that has a little TaoTao 150 that her daughter rides. It quit starting two winters ago. She asked I’d take a look at it and of course I did. It wouldn’t turn over. Acted like no electricity. Tested battery and it was junk. Put a new one in it and still same thing. Neutral light wouldn’t light when you turn on the key. Thought what the heck. Took out ignition switch and had no continuity at any position of testing. Thought I’d see what it looked like inside so tol it apart. All the contacts were blackened with corrosion. I cleaned them up and put it back together. Now it turns over no issue. With it in neutral and key on, both neutral light and reverse light light up. No fire at all. I ordered a new coil, but am curious if the reverse light being on would stop it from sparking. If you know the answer I’d really appreciate your help. This little girl wants to get muddy.
if the reverse light is on then you are going to get no fire.. You should be able to hold the brake and override that and get it started if the braking system is working as it should.. If you havent already clean or replace the carb after that long its going to be dirty
I figured out why the reverse light was on. The little switch down by the shifter had come off and they put it on with the neutral switch. Therefore putting it in neutral turned on both lights. I got it cranking, but no fire. Ordered a new coil, rectifier, and CDI box.
I got a atv from friend. It’s a 150cc I think Chinese but do not know model. It has been sitting a while and the battery died. It gave it to me today so I tried to start it and it started! I back it out and drove it but it had no power and didn’t seem to go faster then like a few mph and boggy then it died and I could not get it started again, carb? I was also hoping whoever reads this could help me identify it.
