No plastics and VIN plate removed, doubt if anyone could recognise it from that, and you have to wonder why the VIN is missing. Though the footwell plastics with all the holes are distinctive, should ensure mud on your boots.

That is the engine number, P57 QMJ confirms it is a 150cc GY6 engine. The VIN plate used to be on that bit between the top front A arms, see the two holes where it was riveted on? GY6 engines were not a very popular choice on ATVs so that narrows it down a bit.

No, and it doesn't always help as some Chinese manufacturers are not listed in the VIN code. Why this need to know who made it?

The thing on top of the box is a breather, just run a pipe upwards to the tank area if you intend going through deep water. The bits you highlight are a splined coupling, we call them muff couplings in the UK, and I guess the other bit is the forward/reverse lever which turns a rod which fits into the muff coupling. My guess would be your gear change doesn't work like that, more likely a lever directly onto the splined shaft and a push/pull rod on the end of it going forwards to the gear change lever.
