1999 Polaris Xpress 300 Engine rebuild
#1
I have a lot of blow-by through the carb (it likes to puddle gas around the air filter in the air box), it sometimes does something akin to knocking at high revs (with major loss of power when it does, I usually just let off throttle and let it idle down and keep trying until it quits doing that), and the compression has gotten down to 60 psi, so I would say I have pretty well worn this thing out and that it is time for a rebuild. I would like to go as cheap as possible, just rings and head gasket if I can help it, and get any bearings that are going or gone. Any suggestions? This would be the first rebuild of any kind for this thing and its probably got about 2,000 hard miles on it, maybe 3. Only major non-original component is the transmission because I threw a chain on it at one point and it crushed in the side of the transmission housing. That was a mess.
