Lt250r won’t start after riding
#1
Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum but not to the quad world. My previous quad was a 00 banshee and now I found a new toy. Hoping someone can give me some place to start. Recently purchased a 86 Lt250r, I went to start it the next day and wouldn’t fire at all. After a bunch of testing I found out I wasn’t getting spark and the coil was bad. A few days later once I got the new coil installed, it fired right up on the first kick, idled perfectly ran perfectly and hauled *** without hesitation. But once it I shut it off it wouldn’t start again unless I waited about an hour or so. Tried it again the next day and is still doing the same thing. Starts up on the first kick, idles beautiful, rode it good for 20 mins and then once I shut it off it wouldn’t start back up until later. Can someone give me a place to start looking? Someone mentioned the carb flooding out but I feel like if it was flooding wouldn’t it be bogging out while I ride it?
Thank you in advance for anyone willing to help!

Have a spare plug and check if there is a good spark when the fault is on. Don't know the LT250r but most Suzukis have either a vacuum operated fuel tap or vac operated fuel pump, if it has a tap, make sure fuel isn't getting to the carb when engine is stopped as this can cause flooding, you won't get a problem with engine running, but a weep from float needle will soon flood the carb with engine stopped. Most makes have an overflow pipe from carb to prevent this, Suzukis don't. However most likely cause is a faulty coil on stator. If you are getting a poor spark, test the system before fitting new parts though. There is a "help diagnose stator" sticky on the Chinese engines section of this forum.

"it does sound like the carb is getting fuel after it is shut off."
Sounds like, or is? Easily tested, if you pull the fuel pipe off with engine stopped, fuel shouldn't be running from tank. Most common problem with new owners is running with the tap on prime. Never do it, always on run, only use prime for filling the float bowl after the carb has been run dry of fuel, once the float bowl has had time to fill, switch to run again. Taps are expensive but can be stripped and cleaned out. However some, like LT80s, are poor quality and flimsy, so easily damaged if you do strip them. Eiger taps are a lot better quality, as I wrote above, I haven't worked on the LT250r.
