I’ve got a recently new to me 85 200s. It’s got an aftermarket coil on it that works. I wanted to put an OEM coil on it, but it will not fire off new oem coils. New coils are pretty close to the manual spec, meanwhile they aftermarket coil the secondary coil is around 15k ohms, way out of spec but it fires. I’m guessing something changed over the years changing the coil or something. Thanks in advance for any info.

 

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The pulse generator system on the 200 is decidedly crude, the advance retard gets sloppy and the air gap for the coil often has to be the bare minimum specified for you to get a spark at all, which always seems to be the feeblest white effort anyway, but they usually run fine off that.
