Default 2004 Polaris Sportsman

I have an 04 sportsman 400 and was replacing the solenoid because after installing a new starter it wouldnt start. So my sone bought a little bit different solenoid than what WAS on it (it had one extra post to connect a wire to that i didnt need) and as a result after hooking up new solenoid it still wouldnt start so I started trying different wires on different posts including criss crossing the main positive wire from the battery switching from one post to the other just to see if it would start. In the process of criss crossing these wires at one point in attempting to turn the key to start it the dash just wouldnt turn on when turning the key... Just like that. Poof. Dead. I have no idea why. All wires back to normal and I even tried putting the old solenoid back on...because at least then i had power and dash would light up. Now 0 power anywhere. Dead unit. Any ideas here? Im not sure what to even test or try? If its the ECM how do I test that thing?

Any ideas greatly appreciated!
