New Polaris Sport Quad
#5
No offense to Polaris or anyone here, but Polaris is really going to have to do their homework on this one. The Sport400 is quick in a strait line. But bring it to the track and if fails badly because of it's heavy weight.
Motor wise, Polaris should have no problem. It's the chassis, suspension and overall weight of the machine that they have to deal with.
Many people compare the 400EX and the Sport400. But they are mostly comparing top speed and acceleration. The machines are close. But if you campare the handling, chassis, weight, reliablity and quality. Honda wins by a mile.
I'm not trying to start a big fight here. But if you have riden both of these machines, the differences are very apparent.
They hold the cards, let's see what they do.

I agree... Taking what's basicaly a Magnum 500 chassis and putting the 425 motor and 5-speed tranny works great for utility. If they just take the sport chassis and make it a manual shift, they will sell a bunch, but it won't match the handling of the EX on track.

One of the things I can't figure out is why Polaris put aluminum rims, bumpers, and floorboards on the Scramblers, but not on the Sport400L, now called the Scrambler 2x4. A start would be putting aluminum wheels on the new sport quad. Then if they want the suspension to be set up for racing, they need to get rid of the macpherson struts or sachs in the front, and replace them with double a-arms. They know how to make long travel rear suspensions, maybe use the fox shock for the back and just add a linkage system, if that's even needed. No floorboards, separate brake controls, rear axle brake like the new ones have, hydraulic foot brake, less weight, and a powerful engine with manual clutch and manual shifting, of course. If they did this, it would be awesome!

Actually I would like Polaris to make a light weight flyer with all the things Rooster said but with an auto tranny. Just so all those "men" with "real" quads would have to stomach the fact the fastest quad made would be a grandma automatic
