Anybody tried the new EBC heavy duty brake pads & disc for Polaris?

My rear disc is in bad shape, but my fronts are ok, but just ok. My pads are gone, and I want somthing that will last longer.

Any ideas?

Adam,

Don't wait too long on the back disc. A couple weeks ago I found out the hard way. I guess I didn't have rear brakes when I got it cause it never seemed to work I just thought the brake line was messed up. It was only a couple months old when I got it but within a few months my back disc must have heated that back caliper up because it was no good. It costs $200.00 for just the caliper and you can't rebuild it, so if something happens to it, you will have to replace the whole thing. I had new brakes all-around new rear caliper and new front master cylinder all for one low price of $480.00 that included labor. OUCH!!!! I think I'll keep a better eye on them there brakes! I used the heavy-duty pads on my Sportsman 500 and they lasted for about a 1,000 miles compared to 300 with the stock ones but I also added EBS at the same time I put the brake pads on. Still you can see that they last a lot longer. I didn't know they were putting brakes on my scrambler or I would have gotten the heavy duty ones this time. Oh well, I think they are worth it.

Steve

PS- Why is the other master cylinder optional when buying the split brakes? Is it for better stopping? Also what about steel braided lines, they work better than the stock ones, have you thought about getting them?

Adam,
YEah... EBC I think they are called SEVERE DUTY brake pads are what you need. They are metallic, and will squeak a little unless you "glue" them to the caliper piston. But they are worth it. Especially for playing in the mud.

They SQUEAK!!??? Forget that, I'll go brake less before I have squeaky brakes....

Just kidding. Called around today, probaly about $75 total for EBC severe duty front & rear, and about $100 for a rear disc. Ouch, that's a lot. If I had the money I would probaly get the front disc too. Isn't Santa on his way though?

If I don't order tonight I will probaly will tomorrow, and when they come I will put them on and see the improvment they make, hopefully.

Steel-braded-lines, I see those advertised in mags. Honestly, I don't know why/how they would help. Somebody enlighten me...

Adam, I have'nt seen any steel braided lines advertised for Polaris ATV's. I'm havong a local Harley custom shop build a set for me out of a Summit Racing catalog. Rubber lines tend to soften as they get older, requiring more pressure, and taking longer to stop you. Hopefully I'll have my fronts by the end of the month, and the rear (with an extra 3" just in case I get that swingarm!) by Jan. It should really sharpen up my ride as well. When I put the fronts on I'm also going to order a set of HPD's vented front rotors, and new pads all around, just to be safe.

Oh, I see. Steel braided sounds good... Maybe later down the road I will try some. I also want at least a different front master cylinder setup. Maybe one of the higher end Magura types, but again, that's some day when I ran out of things to spend money on! :-)

I ordered the front & rear EBC Sever Duty pads today. Ouch, $80! I didn't buy the rear disc yet though, holding off a little for some more $$. Of course it's backordered, but should be here in 10 days I think.
