Hi guys, I have a few questions about the new Detroit Un-Locker.. When will this be avalable for the Rancher? And how will you switch from 2wd to 4wd?? Would it ne a button or would you have to manually swith something? Do you anticipate any problems this would cause the front diff.? And finally, would this work with the Detroit locker, (or atv locker)? (if they ever make one for the da*m Rancher **cough**!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAKE A FRIGGING LOCKER FOR THE RANCHER!!) sorry, but they really should make one...

Thanks, for now!

I phoned HiLifter, the Unlocker for Foremans will not be available until at least mid-July, price tag will be around $450 (YIKES), don't know RE Rancheros. I'm thinking this will be a more dramatic power upgrade than anything else that bolts on, at least while unlocked. Supposed to be a mechanical lever that locks/unlocks it. Check out the HiLifter web site if you haven't done so yet. I love my Prelude, Foreman 450S, XR250R cycle, and Cub 90 scooter. I miss my Reflex cycle. You bet Honda rules in my garage.

I have heard prices would be closer to $400.00, but until they are out it's just a guess. I am told the Un-locker will be cable actuated and you can mount the cable to the handlebars. It will control a coupling that will slide to engage or disengage the two shafts that replace the existing front driveshaft. It seems that it would be a reliable setup. To be a little more clear, it will not add any power as scosho implied it would. Rather the parisitic loss of power due to friction in the front drivetrain will be gained back and it will change the handling characteristics of the machine. It will be able to be used with a conventional locker or the detroit gearless locker, but using it with a normal locker will probably cause increased steering difficulty since the application of power to the front wheels helps lighten the steering effort on a locked differential. The detroit gearless diff should be used in conjunction with the Un-locker if you want to have a true 4WD Honda that uses the Un-locker.
