Sportsman 500

SPARKE,the first thing you want to do when engaging in ANY kind of mudding is drop the Sportsman in low gear.Big differance in the way it powers thru mud.If you can afford it,add a set of GoodYear Mudrunners all the way around the Sportsman and watch it turn into a Mud Master.I know,I own the above set-up.=======BILL

The easist mod to the Sportsman 500 ..
I've found that mine runs *much* better if I use the medium grade gasoline instead of regular unleaded. Haven't tried supreme in it though.
Also, if you can get a little better performance from several areas, they start to add up:
K&N or other high perf. air filter.
Proper jetting for the altitude & temp.
Proper clutch springs & weights for the altitude & temp.
Synthetic lubricants ... everywhere.
Proper tire pressure for the conditions.
Properly gapped spark plug in good condition.
Weight: don't haul stuff you don't need.
The only thing in my Sportsman 500 that isn't synthetic (yet) is the brake fluid & antifreeze. I use all AMSOIL synthetic products - 0w30 in the motor, 75w90 in the diffs, synthetic ATF in the hubs, and water-resistant grease. I also have a K&N filter and an assortment of jets. Occasionaly I add gas treatment to the tank to remove any moisture.
I've read a lot of "good" posts regarding Goodyear Mudrunners and roller clutches, and I plan to add both to my Polaris... eventually.
