backfiring 4oo
#1
K, guys. Need some input.. Have a 96 scrambler 400.. It has clutch kit, ported, carb bored, pipe, and head mods..
My problem is when i try to run slow, like cruse at 25mph or so.. it stutters sometimes it backfires. If i keep hitting the throttle it is fine... If im running full or 3/4 throttle it runs great????? Everything should be set up right, but...
Any ideas out there?? Would reeds help this??
Its not a bad problem, but very irritating when im riding in the woods and have to keep tapping the throttle..

i hae two questions for you: first off how does your spark plug look? sometimes when mine starts to foul it gets a "miss". second, is your plug wire/boot attached firmly and securely? I havd mine start to separate inside the boot and not make real good contact and would "miss" at lower speeds. other than that i don't know what to tell you, unless it is not jetted correctly.....chris

After it does this the plug does look fouled.. not bad, but... Havent taken a look at the plug boot.. A place to start anyway.. I thought jetting too, But according to Darrell at HPD its all setup right there...
So.... out to the garage..
