Has anyone gotten documented proof this works? Like on a dyno or comparing to one without the mod? You have to have something to compare it to, to make a established claim of h.p. increase.

i removed the choke from my 250X because it was pissing me off it would keep coming on when i was riding! i didnt notice any gains or losses except that my wheeler didnt want to die because it was on! i have my pilot a little rich on it so it will start first kick anyway and it was pointless to keep it for me anyway! but i wouldnt dick with it unless it is causing you problems!

i just read a thread on this and the majority said it would because it increases airflow!!! im also looking at my carb while typing and i see why on my 300ex it would.

Lazurus from GT Thunder did some testing when the 400EX first came out...his posts can be read on this link: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...03,47&ic=1

Anyway, here are his comments about what removing the choke did on a modified motor (also read the last sentence):

"While I had the carb off during the one test I noticed how restrictive the choke looked. Since this carb has a accelerater pump I knew that I could start it without a choke. The flow bench showed a bigger improvement in flow without the choke than I expected. On the bike I got a 1.2 hp increase (wow). Max 38.1hp. I then did this same trick to a stock bike that only had a differant silencer and my intake setup but the inside of the engine was stock and got a .5hp gain everywhere."

I actually did this to my 400ex last week but didn't get a chance to test it out until friday. I don't have any scientific data, but, I did notice a distinct difference. I would say is was probably about one horse gain in the mid-range and top end. I tested it on a MX track that I ride all the time, so I could really compare it well to the past performance, i.e. speed pick up between jumps and down short straights. It seems to pick up rpms quicker now, especially in the mid-range, lofts the front easier over small rises on the power.
I had no issues with starting at all. The bottom line is this--it's free, it's easy and it works, do what you will, I know I did.
