I m going to put a lift kit on my 2000 500 sportsman. Does anyone know they go on and if they actually give you anymore ground clearance?

I have High Lifter’s lift kits front & rear on my ‘99SP. They result in about 1 ¾” ground clearance improvement. I installed them myself and it was no huge project, but to others it might be. If you want some tips on installation, after you buy the kit(s) contact me and I’ll help you out.

Floodrunner, please correct me if im wrong,as I very well could be.You said the kit from High Lifter gave you 1-3/4 more GROUND clearance improvement. It is my understanding that the kit only lifts the body and results in no increase in actual GROUND clearance. Are not rims/tires the only thing that will result in GROUND clearance improvement? Thanks in advance===BILL

Good question Bill, I just ordered the lift Kit from Highlifter, and having not put it on yet, or seen it yet, I was wondering the same. I looked at the rear axle and shock mounts to see if I could lift it without buying a kit, decided to buy one so I wouldn't do anything wrong. I'll get there when I get there....

Your right Bill, but I think it is different with the IRS models. Again not positive on that. I could try to explain it, but it's Monday and I can't seem to turn thoughts into readable text.

You guys read it right, I said and meant ground clearance. A lift kit on a straight axle quad will give you body lift in the rear, to make room for larger tires. It’s the larger tires that give you the increased ground clearance. But, the IRS has an (another) advantage over the straight axle in that when the lift kit lifts the body it lifts the whole thing from the skid plate on up resulting in more ground clearance. Can’t do that with a swing-arm!

To Monster500 and anyone else who wants to e-mail me or anyone else on this forum, take a look at the 3 icons up near the top of each of these posts. The middle one is a link to the poster's e-mail address. At least it shows up that way in my browser.

I just put a lift kit on my 2000 SP500 & my 99 SP335. The kit did raise the whole machine at least 1 3/4. We manufactured the lift kits ourselves ( 4 spacers ) out of high grade steel spacers. We found some things that improve on the original highlifter kit. If you have any questions just let me know. We also put on a set of 27" Mud machines all the way around. (wjptcs@iland.net)

I have read somewhere, maybe at Highlifter. They reposition (rotate) the axle housing on swingarm machines. I assume it probably has some kind of spacer involved for the shock. It wouldn't raise the axle, but it would raise the frame. Just guessin here, but I would like to find out.
