There is a guy over on the Kawasaki Forum that claims his 2001 Prairie 4+4 went better through the mud than his buddys Traxter. He also claims it has more horsepower and has more top speed. That isn't true is it? I would think the Traxter would have the advantage with the locking differential compared to the prairie's 3 wheel drive in the mud. I think he is just bragging up his prairie that he just bought a few weeks ago. I know the prairie has great power in the 400 class, good speed also, but more power than the Traxter? The topic in the Kawasaki forum is called- "My review of the 2001 Kawasaki Prairie 400 4+4".

well yea, that was me, but it wasn't bragging. His 4x4 system worked exactly the same as the Prairie's did, (when stuck 3 tires spin instead of 4). The 220 is about the same speed as the traxter is, and that isn't all that fast. The Prairie has 30 hp, the traxter has 25. But the traxter has more torque at 30 ft-lbs where the Prairie comes in at 25 ft-lbs. again wasn't bragging but it was the truth we went through the same stuff and his got stuck 3 times, the Prairie once. Rider ability is equal. If not his is better.

another thing that makes a huge difference is how much more the traxter weighs. But I do like the looks of one a lot better, was going to buy one of those but they were too expensive!

That is true, the Traxter is heavy. I like the fact that it has a locking differential, and that they are supposed to be easy to do maintenance on. A dealer about 19 miles from where I live, had a sale on Bombardier's. They had a 2000 Traxter for $5099+ Tax, etc. Tempting, but I don't have the cash yet! I do have a brother-in-law that has a 2000 Prairie 400, and a brother who has a 2000 Kodiak, but I haven't had the chance to drive 'em yet, since they both live about 102 miles north of me. But in the near future I will have to drive both of them and see how they are.

another thing a lot better about the traxter is that it handles a lot better than the prairie does (easier to turn) plus the inside tire doesn't rise in sharp fast turns like the 400's does. But the 400 has a better ride, so you gotta just give/take what you want in a quad. What is more important to you?
