i have a 2000 lakota and its as fast as a 300ex and its stock you just have to know how to get the power out of it and mess with the adjustment screws on the carb a little

i know some people won't believe me and lakota00 but the lakota is just as fast a 300EX. I had a 97 and raced 2 or 3 EXs and whoever was the lighter rider always won. Sometimes the EX would edge me out and sometimes i'd edge out the EX. I wasn't impressed by the EX b/c i always thought the lakota needed more power and everyone always says how great the EX is. Guess you can't take other people's word for it, you have to ride it yourself.

With a k&n filter/jet kit($100) a good pipe ($200) and a new front sprocket ($15) I think you would edge out a stock 300EX in both acceleration and top speed(it is only 1mph slower stock). The key to the Lakota in acceleration is to short shift so to speak. The powerband falls off rather quick on the top end, but it has a good, flat useable low and midrange. I have rode my friends a few times and noticed that if you shift sooner and let the midrange pull you it gets up to speed a lot quicker. It doesn't have that top end hit like my Mojave so it feels a lot slower than it really is.

If you're trying to go that fast why not get a Mojave for just about the same price as a Lakota Sport-got mine for $4180.00 brand new out the door 4 months ago. If you're going to mod the Lakota to try to keep up w/a 300ex you'll be spending more anyway. Buy what you really want now-don't spend a fortune trying to make mods later to keep up.

Just get the 300EX because it handles so much better than the Lakota Sport. Chet
