I just got a "new to me" Foreman. ('97 400)

1.) What is the best anti-flat stuff to add in the tires to keep nails and thorns from causing flats?

2.) What are some of the best mods you guys add to these workhorses? This one already has a winch and a snowplow. I'm thinking of a heavy duty skid-plate?

Thanks in advance for the advice. I read all the Honda posts, but never write in. Working hard in Ohio, Jeff

MHO on the best stuff for flats, is "SLIME" the green stuff with the ground rubber in it, it doesn't dry out in paticular, or get real nasty, if one is really being cheap you can scoup it out and slop into new tires when you get em. It works perfect for nails and thorns( you'll probably never even know unless the nail sticks and stays in ).

tough skid plats, CV boot protectors(stick stoppers),

Hi there,

I have been a Foreman 400 rider since 96. I have tried other bikes (wolverine, foreman 450) and I can tell you that there is no place that I have ever wanted to go that the 400 wouldn't go. It is powerful, tough, and I think well mannered. I have left mine (I'm on my 2nd) bone stock and been very happy.

The only thing I change/add is skid plates. The bike just doesn't have that much ground clearance, buy a good skidder and you can slide right on over whatever it is that is under you.

Also get a bottle of GM differental lube (small bottle with red lettering) and replace 1 ounce of your front end oil with it. I used a big syringe to pull out the one ounce. It will help that brute turn easier.

Keep an eye on your rear wheel hub/axle joint. make sure those wheel nuts are tight. That's all I can think of. The 400 is bomb proof. Enjoy!

ER

The foreman 400 is a great quad. Tough as nails and reliable as the new sun. It seems you've already got the most important mods with the winch. Just make sure you have a-arm guards to go with the skid plates. Slime is good stuff but if you want to get out cheaper then go to the local co-op or farm supply store and get some tractor tire sealant. It's the same as slime without the puke green color and at abut 1/4 the price.

My neighbor has a 97 foreman. I don't think he has had any problems with it. Its his pack mule when hunting season arrives. Slime works great and I have it in all my ATV's. I have even put it in my lawn machines and pull carts. It saved me one time way out in the boondocks. I was back home and my son said whats that in the recons tire. It was a big 6 inch long nail of some type. The slime had sealed around the rough nail and kept pressure to allow me to get home. Just yesterday I used on old yard cart that I haven't used in a while and it still had pressure in the tires and before the slime I always had to bring the air tank with me. Good luck having the dealer see you much with your foreman 400. Doesn't foreman mean till the end of time. Chet

Can you use slime in tires that might already have a small leak in them or do they need to be brand new tires. I was just curious because I have a tire that has a slow leak and I really don't want to put a tube in the tire if I can fix it with the slime and I don't want to use fix-a-flat either.

You sure can. I have an old trailer that the tires would always leak down and I beleived they were leaking around the rims. I put some slime in those tires and now I haven't had to put air in them all summer. Chet
